UFC 74 Fighters Test Clean for Steroids

Ultimate fighting may be on its way to New York

“I think it’s barbaric and I don’t think it’s appropriate to have it in New York,” Governor George Pataki said in 1997. “A disgraceful, animalistic and disgusting contest which can result in severe injuries to contestants and sets an abominable example for our youth,” state senator Roy Goodman called it the same year. New York mayor Rudy Giuliani opposed it, and U.S. senator John McCain memorably described it as “human cockfighting.”

BudoTV Launches a New Video Sharing Site for Martial Artists and MMA Fans

Otane, Inc. has launched a new service for martial artists and MMA fans called BudoTV.com. The video sharing site allows users to upload their videos for free, participate in ongoing forums, receive up-to-date news via RSS, and allow groups and clubs to be formed within the site.The mission of the site is to bring martial artists and fans in one area. “YouTube and the other major video share sites emphasize entertainment,” says James Liu, a black belt martial artist and creator of the site. “We want martial artists to share their techniques and spread their knowledge.”

Sean Sherk Still Claiming Innocence

A few weeks ago Sherk’s lawyer made some official statements proclaiming that the UFC’s Lightweight Champion innocent of all charges made against him by the California State Athletic Commission. 

Channel 13 Action News caught up with Sherk and grabbed a quick video interview.  Sherk says that he’ll continue to appeal his failed drug test.

Fedor Deal In Works?

PRIDE FC Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko — the most coveted mixed martial arts free agent on the planet — is scheduled to meet with UFC officials in Las Vegas, Nevada, today to discuss contract terms, according to Sherdog.com. Here’s snip from one of his managers, Apy Echteld:

“Our trip is not to shop between the organizations but to come to a final solution. Unless we go for the UFC, Fedor will be a free agent.”

The International Fight League, Strikeforce and K-1 are other potential suitors for the Russian’s services; however, the report indicates that the UFC has made the best offer to date.

Renato “Babulu” Sobral Choked Out From UFC

UFC president Dana White announced today during a conference call to promote UFC 75 on September 8 that Renato “Babalu” Sobral has been released from his contract due to applying a choke too long during this past Saturday’s match against David Heath at UFC 74.

White was asked by a different reporter whether there was a chance Sobral would ever fight for the UFC again. White didn’t shut the door on a return when he responded to the question by saying he didn’t want to say never.
