Sean Sherk Still Claiming Innocence

A few weeks ago Sherk’s lawyer made some official statements proclaiming that the UFC’s Lightweight Champion innocent of all charges made against him by the California State Athletic Commission.

Channel 13 Action News caught up with Sherk and grabbed a quick video interview.  Sherk says that he’ll continue to appeal his failed drug test.

Fedor Deal In Works?

PRIDE FC Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko — the most coveted mixed martial arts free agent on the planet — is scheduled to meet with UFC officials in Las Vegas, Nevada, today to discuss contract terms, according to Sherdog.com. Here’s snip from one of his managers, Apy Echteld:

“Our trip is not to shop between the organizations but to come to a final solution. Unless we go for the UFC, Fedor will be a free agent.”

The International Fight League, Strikeforce and K-1 are other potential suitors for the Russian’s services; however, the report indicates that the UFC has made the best offer to date.

Renato “Babulu” Sobral Choked Out From UFC

UFC president Dana White announced today during a conference call to promote UFC 75 on September 8 that Renato “Babalu” Sobral has been released from his contract due to applying a choke too long during this past Saturday’s match against David Heath at UFC 74.

White was asked by a different reporter whether there was a chance Sobral would ever fight for the UFC again. White didn’t shut the door on a return when he responded to the question by saying he didn’t want to say never.

More details to come.

Diego Sanchez has left his long time trainer Greg Jackson and is now working with Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Saulo Ribeiro and his team at University of Jiu Jitsu (UNIJJ) in San Diego, California. Meanwhile, former UFC Welterweight champion Georges St Pierre has decided to join Greg Jackson full time. In the past, Georges St Pierre has preferred to stay in his native Montreal and train at a variety of gyms.

Japanese Journeymen Headed to the UFC?

Basically, the three fighters are training to fight at 170 pounds which is the UFC Welterweight class. Misaki (18-8-2) is the highest rated fighter — currently ranked #8 by MMA Weekly at middleweight (185lbs). But honestly I feel he’s pretty over-rated despite his decision wins over Dan Henderson and Dennis Kang. Trigg crushed him and Paulo Fihlo didn’t have too much trouble. BUT the prospect of Misaki cutting down to 170 and fighting in the UFC is pretty intriguing. He’s a good submission fighter and always a gamer.

Cage Rage Shun MMA Rumour Mill

After recent rumours had surfaced from “reliable” sources that Mark Weir would not be fighting in September’s Cage Rage event the Cage Rage bosses have released the following comment.”Contrary to several reports to have surfaced over the last few days in some prominent areas, we would like to confirm that not only is the Weir Vs. Daley fight still on , but that Mark is currently training as hard ever for what will be an explosive bout on the night of 22nd September. We unfortunately, have no control over the rumour mongers, but can promise you a fantastic fight with the Cage Rage World and British Welterweight Title up for grabs. This is a fight not to be missed!”
