Rampage reigns again

UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was successful in his first title defense, scoring a five-round unanimous decision over Dan Henderson yesterday at UFC 75 in London.

The bout was billed as a unification match as Henderson was representing the now-defunct Pride Fighting Championships, which UFC purchased. With the win, Jackson became the first undisputed champion in the UFC.

Mixed martial arts fans of Del Rio, this one’s for you.On Oct. 27 at the Del Rio Civic Center, the Texas Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Association, under the promotion of former Del Rioan Chip Thornsburgh, brings eight bouts featuring the best up-and-coming fighters in the state.Included among those fights will be a bout for the state featherweight amateur championship.

Though the fighters aren’t as well known as the men you see on TV, the action inside the cage, or the ring, is the same as fans have come to expect from organizations such as Pride, Bodog or Ultimate Fighting Championship.
