Rashad Evans and Thiago SilvaOne after another, fighters dropped from the card, matchups were erased and critics complained.

UFC 108, they said, was cursed.

How bad did the "curse" get? Even UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, who was left scrambling several times trying to fill holes in the card, blew out the medial collateral ligament in his knee in the days before the event.

MMA Top 10 Pound-for-Pound: Where Does B.J. Penn Belong?

Michael David Smithby Michael David Smith

B.J. Penn showed once again on Saturday at UFC 107 that there's simply no one close to him in the lightweight division in MMA.

Penn dominated Diego Sanchez, just as he dominated Kenny Florian, Sean Sherk, Joe Stevenson and Jens Pulver before him. Since a two-fight losing streak at welterweight convinced him to move back down to 155 pounds, Penn has not even been challenged as a lightweight.

So I think you could make a case that Penn belongs at the very top of the list of the best pound-for-pound fighters in MMA. But in my book, he's not quite as high as Fedor Emelianenko (who dominates bigger heavyweights), Anderson Silva (who dominates both middleweights and light heavyweights) or Georges St. Pierre (who dominated Penn himself, admittedly at St. Pierre's weight class).

My latest pound-for-pound rankings are below.

Joe Stevenson vs. BJ Penn in December?

BJ Penn’s camp has confirmed that Penn will be fighting at UFC 79 on December 29th. His opponent however has yet to be named. UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk’s appeal to the California State Athletic Commission is set for October 31. If his suspension is overturned it’s likely he will be Penn’s opponent. However, if his suspension is not overturned and he is stripped of the title it is very likely Joe Stevenson could step in and face Penn for the title. Here is an excerpt of an interview that Stevenson recently had with TheFightNetwork.com:

How to handle Lesnar’s UFC introduction

With the signing of Brock Lesnar imminent, UFC President Dana White faces an interesting dilemma.

Should he fast-track an inexperienced — albeit well-known — heavyweight competitor from his days in World Wrestling Entertainment toward a marquee UFC debut? Or does he make Lesnar — who has just one mixed martial arts bout under his belt — earn his stripes, knowing that an early UFC loss could severely damage his potential drawing power like it did Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic when the former PRIDE champion was upset by Gabriel Gonzaga in April?
