Fedor Deal In Works?

PRIDE FC Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko — the most coveted mixed martial arts free agent on the planet — is scheduled to meet with UFC officials in Las Vegas, Nevada, today to discuss contract terms, according to Sherdog.com. Here’s snip from one of his managers, Apy Echteld:

“Our trip is not to shop between the organizations but to come to a final solution. Unless we go for the UFC, Fedor will be a free agent.”

The International Fight League, Strikeforce and K-1 are other potential suitors for the Russian’s services; however, the report indicates that the UFC has made the best offer to date.

Randy Couture’s victory bolsters UFC heavyweights

Randy Couture never has been one to back down from a challenge.

It was last November when he decided to end a yearlong retirement to return to the octagon. Not only did he come back, he defeated Tim Sylvia in March to become the UFC heavyweight champion.

This past Saturday at UFC 74, Couture once again defied the odds when he scored a dominating victory against Gabriel Gonzaga, an opponent 16 years younger and 22 pounds heavier.

Now the 44-year-old champion has his sights set on the next big challenge, one that might be the biggest of his career.

How to handle Lesnar’s UFC introduction

With the signing of Brock Lesnar imminent, UFC President Dana White faces an interesting dilemma.

Should he fast-track an inexperienced — albeit well-known — heavyweight competitor from his days in World Wrestling Entertainment toward a marquee UFC debut? Or does he make Lesnar — who has just one mixed martial arts bout under his belt — earn his stripes, knowing that an early UFC loss could severely damage his potential drawing power like it did Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic when the former PRIDE champion was upset by Gabriel Gonzaga in April?

UFC 74 medical suspensions from NSAC

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued the medical suspensions from UFC 74: “Respect” this weekend. And the list of injured fighters is rather significant.Randy Couture and Joe Stevenson, however, didn’t make the list. That’s odd because “The Natural” fractured his left forearm and “Daddy” sustained a broken nose.

Regardless, here’s the skinny:

Gabriel Gonzaga — “Napao” must have his broken nose cleared by an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) physician or he can’t compete until February 22, 2008. The minimum suspension will last until October 25, 2007, and there’s no contact until October 10, 2007.

Josh Barnett Challenges Randy Couture

Top-ranked mixed martial arts fighter Josh Barnett (20-5-0) says he is still the UFC heavyweight champion.

“The Babyface Assassin” makes the claim in a recent post on his website.

Randy [Couture] did a phenomenal job at UFC 74 in defending his title,” he says. “As a fan and a fellow Washingtonian I was happy to see him win. But as for the title itself — it still sits in my house. No one in UFC ever beat me for it, and as far as I am concerned, no one in the UFC can be the heavyweight champion until they take that belt off of me in the cage.”

Randy Couture Confirms Broken Arm

What’s more impressive than beating a younger, stronger, bigger opponent?

Doing it with a broken arm.

On August 25, UFC heavyweight champion Randy “The Natural” Couture (15-8-0) did just that, beating Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga (8-2-0) despite sustaining a broken arm in the third round.

Sean Salmon Discusses IFO Title Shot, UFC 74

I also want to thank the readers, especially the ones that take the time to post in the comments section. I try to check them regularly and reply to all questions. Thank you.

Knuckle Down: UFC 74 in the Books

Apparently being a middle-aged fighter handicapped by a 25-pound disadvantage wasn’t enough of a test for Randy Couture . No, confirmed the UFC heavyweight champion, he had to fight his way past Gabriel Gonzaga with a broken left arm as well on Saturday.

In the aftermath of his third-round stoppage, The Fight Network reported Monday that “The Natural” endured a broken forearm after blocking the same Gonzaga high hick that knocked Mirko Filipovic out cold in April.

Couture won’t be forced into a cast, and instead will wear a splint for six weeks.
